Google Ups the XR-AI Game

▶ Source – Telecoms.com ▶ Google has introduced Android XR, a version of its operating system for extended reality devices, with the first devices expected in 2025. Features include immersive apps like Google Maps, Google Photos in 3D, and YouTube on virtual screens, with hand-tracked gestures and Google Play app support. Android XR integrates Google’s Gemini 2.0 GenAI which may put it ahead of Meta’s and Apple’s XR devices. The first device, Project Moohan, developed with Samsung, will launch next year. Developers can build apps using tools and standards such as ARCore, Unity, and OpenXR.
