Unity and Epic Games Union

⊲ The Verge ⊳ Epic Games is partnering with Unity to integrate Unity-developed games into Fortnite, expanding the platform’s offerings significantly. This collaboration aims to create an open metaverse, allowing developers to publish their games directly within Fortnite’s ecosystem. Currently, Fortnite operates as a closed system, but this move is seen as a step towards a more decentralised approach, similar to the open web. The partnership could provide new monetisation opportunities for developers, particularly smaller ones, amidst industry challenges. “Just like the early days of the web, we believe that companies need to work together in order to build the open metaverse in a way that’s interoperable and fair,” said Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO of Epic Games.
