AR May Transform Medicine
⊲ Dove Medical Press ⊳ This review examines the evaluation of AR head-mounted devices (HMDs) in healthcare, highlighting their applications in surgery, rehabilitation, and medical training. Key challenges include hardware heterogeneity, software inconsistencies, and subjective usability metrics. The study details methods for assessing display quality, camera tracking, registration accuracy, image rendering fidelity, and clinical usability. It proposes five design principles for standardised performance evaluation: prioritising core functions, simulating real clinical conditions, objectifying perception, and integrating linked components to enhance safety and effectiveness.
