Applied Intelligence ⊳Researchers present a method that links artificial intelligence with augmented reality to improve industrial knowledge management in maintenance work. AI processes maintenance records using language analysis and machine learning to classify faults and organise operational knowledge. It provides step-by-step repair guidance delivered via Microsoft HoloLens 2. Tested on Dutch railway operator NS’s sanitary subsystem, the prototype achieved a 91.2% fault classification accuracy and zero procedural errors in simulation. The system reduces reliance on individual expertise and static manuals, offering a scalable way to embed structured knowledge into frontline maintenance workflows.
