Enhancing XR Battery Life & Accuracy
⊲ New Electronics ⊳ VoxelSensors, a Belgian company, is collaborating with Qualcomm to improve its depth sensing technology, known as Single Photon Active Event Sensor (SPAES), for XR applications. It works by detecting changes in light at each pixel to quickly build a 3D view of the surroundings. This allows for faster, more accurate interaction with virtual content while keeping power use and device size low, with the company claiming 10x power savings and lower latency whilst maintaining performance across varied lighting conditions. The improved technology will be available to select partners by December 2025, contributing to advancements in lightweight augmented reality devices.
