Experiencing Flavours in Virtual Reality
▶ Source – VICE ▶ Researchers from City University of Hong Kong have developed a handheld device resembling a disposable vape that lets users taste flavours in virtual reality. Using iontophoresis, it transmits taste sensations via flavoured hydrogels and mild electrical signals to simulate bitter, sour, sweet, salty, and umami flavours. The device contains nine flavour channels with options like sugar, salt, and various fruits. Potential applications include virtual food sampling without purchase.
