Gaussian Splatting for Consumers
⊲ CNET ⊳ Meta has launched Hyperscape Capture, a tool that allows Quest 3 and Quest 3S users to quickly create 3D scans of their environments using Gaussian Splatting technology. Gaussian Splatting is a high-speed real-time rendering method that uses millions of transparent 3D ellipses to efficiently generate photorealistic images from any viewpoint. The app generates impressive still-life captures of spaces, such as homes and studios, with a quality that rivals existing tools, but currently only supports private viewing. Future plans include enabling uploads to Horizon Worlds for interactive experiences. This development marks a significant step in enhancing XR, especially given the affordability of the Quest headsets.
