Latency-Aware Wi-Fi is Coming
⊲ Capacity Media ⊳ Wi‑Fi 8, or IEEE 802.11bn, is being designed to handle the demands of emerging technologies including AR, AI and robotics by prioritising ultra-low latency and responsiveness. Nokia’s Klaus Doppler outlines new features including dynamic channel switching and better coordination across multiple access points. “Wifi 8 is not just a technical milestone; it could be a step towards a latency-aware internet infrastructure,” says Doppler. The first technical draft is due in July 2025, with widespread use not expected before 2027–2028.
