Military Autonomy and Simulation Converge

Shield AI ⊳ Shield AI has announced plans to acquire simulation firm Aechelon alongside raising $2 billion at a $12.7 billion valuation. The deal aims to strengthen its autonomous systems by integrating high-fidelity simulation capabilities used in defence and aerospace. The funding will support expansion of its AI pilot technology and broader deployment across military platforms. Shield AI says its Hivemind Foundation Model for Defense, a domain-specific AI model blending simulation with real-world operational data to speed AI pilot adoption across new aircraft, reflects a fundamental shift in how defence capabilities are built: “shaped in software, trained in simulation, and improved through use”.
