Simulation Weekly News

The US Army committed $127 million to upgrade its unified OneSAF simulation program through the ECS-Riptide Joint Venture. New platforms emerged, such as VRAI’s VADE (Virtual All Domain Environment), an immersive 3D platform leveraging Unreal Engine and Cesium to support faster mission briefing and rehearsal. The British Army Royal Logistic Corps trialled Adaptive Virtual Reality Training (AVRT), a free-roam system enhancing tactical awareness using haptic technology. Supporting this trend, a study found that VR-based procedural training for aircraft technicians was statistically equal to traditional full-flight simulators (FFS), suggesting potential cost reductions. Furthermore, 3D content creation is evolving rapidly, with firms like B-Design3D using AI to develop dual-use digital twins and realistic 3D terrain for training both human users and autonomous systems.
Simultaneously, the metaverse broadened its scope. Epic Games partnered with Unity to integrate Unity-developed games into Fortnite, signaling a major step toward an interoperable, open metaverse. Meta also focused on shared social spaces, rolling out a feature for its Hyperscape technology that allows Quest 3 users to scan and share virtual replicas of real-world rooms with others.
