U.S. Navy’s Portable VR-Based Trainer
⊲ Halldale ⊳ The U.S. Navy has demonstrated a portable virtual reality bridge training system aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt, confirming its use in live operational conditions. The Virtual Bridge and Nautical Trainer (VIBRaNT) allows bridge teams to practise navigation and watchkeeping at sea using untethered VR, reducing dependence on shore facilities. Adapted from a commercial system by UK firm Kilo Solutions, the capability supports rehearsal, assessment and standards maintenance while lowering training risk and cost, pointing towards a shift toward agile, point-of-need training solutions.
