
Valve’s New “Streaming‑First” VR Headset
⊲ UploadVR ⊳ Valve has confirmed its standalone VR headset, Steam Frame, will launch in early 2026. It employs an evolved Proton compatibility layer and can run almost any Linux, Windows, and Android game, including SteamVR games, and includes a 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E dongle for wireless PC VR. Built around the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip with 16 GB RAM, it features dual 2160×2160 LCDs, 72–120 Hz refresh, and eye tracking for foveated streaming. Four onboard fisheye cameras enable inside-out tracking. It is likely priced below the $1000 Valve Index kit and includes modular options.
