German Navy’s Six Base Distributed Training

Military Embedded Systems ⊳ Rheinmetall has secured a “mid double-digit million Euro” contract to provide the German Navy with the Distributed Naval Training Architecture (VTAM), a simulation-based system designed to simulate the interaction between a warship’s external and internal combat operations, including weapons deployment and damage control. It will be deployed across six naval bases – Wilhelmshaven, Rostock-Warnemünde, Bremerhaven, Eckernförde, Kiel, and Nordholz – with the centre in Wilhelmshaven coordinating the networking and training across the participating bases. The four-year project, initiated in January 2025, will make it possible to connect existing or future simulation systems and on-shore facilities to the training architecture, ensuring support for joint exercises.
