VR Can Match Simulator for Training
⊲ Cambridge University Press ⊳ This study compared VR-based procedural training with traditional full-flight simulator (FFS) instruction for fourth-generation airliners. One hundred FAA-certified aircraft technicians were randomly assigned to FFS or VR, with performance assessed using cognitive, psychomotor and time-based criteria. Results showed no statistical difference in outcomes between the two groups. VR proved equally effective, suggesting its potential to reduce reliance on costly simulator time and broaden access to high-quality maintenance training, though further research is necessary to validate its effectiveness and streamline certification processes.
