Immersive Engineering Tackles Skills Shortage
⊲ Xpert.Digital ⊳ Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI) has become Germany’s first university to deploy Sony’s SRH-S1 XR headset in regular engineering teaching. Priced at $4,750 and offering higher display resolution than Apple Vision Pro, the device integrates directly with Siemens NX CAD software, enabling students to design in three dimensions rather than merely view models. Professor Jan Robert Ziebart’s VR lab directly addresses Germany’s engineering skills shortage, with 315,000 specialists due to retire within a decade and 80 per cent of engineers expecting to need new skills.
