Training Civil and Military Drone Pilots

Halldale ⊳ Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the US Army at Fort Benning are taking contrasting approaches to UAS training, yet both are working broadly towards the same end. At Embry-Riddle, students build drones, programme autopilot systems and map real-world terrain, aiming to produce fully rounded aviators. At Fort Benning, Infantry and Armor trainees complete a 10-hour simulation-based familiarisation course using VBS4, covering tactical reconnaissance and simulated strikes. Both efforts anticipate a future airspace shared by air taxis, delivery drones, military assets and conventional aircraft.
