China’s Brain-Tech Strategy

Wired ⊳ China has unveiled a five-year plan co-authored by seven ministries to boost brain-computer interface (BCI) development, aiming for core breakthroughs by 2027 and global competitiveness by 2030. The initiative spans medical and consumer applications, from neural implants to assistive wearables, with emphasis on domestic chip design, software, data security, and ethical standards. This marks a coordinated effort to turn BCI into a viable and scalable industry rather than speculative science.
While this could spark competition with the US, some experts advocate for international collaboration to benefit patients.
