Major Change in Aviation Training and Simulation

⊲ Halldale ⊳ The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has introduced a new regulatory framework for flight simulation training devices, moving from fixed types and levels to a capability-based approach centred on the FSTD Capability Signature (FCS). The task-to-tool methodology lets training organisations match simulators to specific objectives, while new provisions support extended reality and touchscreen flight deck technologies. The framework aims to encourage innovation while maintaining safety standards, with guidance, workshops and industry support planned during the transition.
By codifying the FCS as a recognised qualification standard, EASA may give defence and other sector’s procurement and training authorities a template they could adapt to drive a training-first approach to simulator requirements.
