AR Glasses That Tailor View Automatically

⊲ Inavate ⊳ Researchers have developed a new way to make augmented reality glasses show virtual objects clearly without blocking your view of the real world. The system uses light-polarising components and eye-tracking to work out, in real time, how much of each scene a person can actually see, then adjusts the balance automatically. Studies with volunteers helped the team understand how much contrast people need to make out virtual textures and lighting. Tests on a working prototype showed the approach kept virtual objects looking convincing while improving visibility of real surroundings, useful for tasks like maintenance and medical work.
The mask balancing method suggests future AR headsets may prioritise perceptual tuning over costly optical hardware redesigns.
