Army Builds Drone Simulator In-House

Army.mil ⊳ Drone warfare in Ukraine is reshaping US Army training doctrine, prompting the Combined Arms Command-Training Innovation Facility to build the Virtual Drone Collective Trainer (VDCT) in-house. Robert Schutz says two-week sprint cycles let developers field new capabilities within weeks rather than waiting on vendors. Hans Hull explains VDCT forces leaders, not just pilots, to manage battery life, sensors and swarm attacks across the Games for Training network’s 78 bases. A 145-laptop exercise at Fort Cavazos tested the concept before transition to OneArc’s VBS4 and the Reconfigurable Academic and Adaptive Digital (RAAD) environment and ultimately the future Synthetic Training Environment framework.
