Europe Tackles Virtual World Fragmentation

⊲ Science|Business ⊳ At a Brussels summit on 10 September, the €2 million EU-funded OPENVERSE project showcased proven virtual world applications, including Changefied’s VR simulations helping neurodivergent teenagers rehearse airports and public transport, and Heka VR’s clinically validated therapy for schizophrenia patients who hear voices. Christoph Runde of the Virtual Dimension Center warned that fragmentation among competing standards, including NATO’s, hinders interoperability. IDC reported European adoption willingness doubling to 40%, with investment forecast to reach €6 billion by 2030, while Eirmersive’s Camille Donegan noted European client budgets are perhaps tenfold smaller than America’s.
◂ The OPENVERSE Observatory’s register of over 350 organisations gives Brussels a map of Europe’s simulation base, the kind of industrial intelligence that may targeted investment. ▸
