Finnish XR Training Targets Drone Threats
⊲ Varjo ⊳ The Finnish Defence Forces Innovation Unit and Varjo are piloting training with a brigade-level unit to improve soldiers’ readiness against drone and loitering munitions threats. Soldiers wear the Varjo XR-4 Series mixed reality headset, which places virtual drones into their real surroundings and, the company says, offers enough clarity to train against a five-inch FPV drone at realistic distances. Preparations began in February 2026. The release cites Ukraine, where FPV micro-drones and loitering munitions pose a constant threat. Major Ville Kuparinen said the pilot allows realistic drone training without consuming real resources.
◂ If the Finnish brigade pilot succeeds, mixed reality counter-UAS drills could become a routine element of training rather than a specialist add-on. ▸
