Instrumented Exercise Tests Combat Readiness
⊲ MS&T ⊳ Writing for MS&T, Dim Jones flew aboard Draken Europe’s Zodiac 5, a Dassault Falcon 20 simulating a Su-34 Fullback, during Exercise Cobra Warrior 26-2 from Teesside International Airport. Paired with L-159 Honey Badgers acting as MiG-29s, the Red Air crew used electronic attack equipment emitting waveforms matched to customer mission data against Typhoons and F-35s. Shots were assessed in real time through Cubic’s SPEAR system within Draken’s PHANTOM SKY range control product, with ‘killed’ aircraft regenerated to maximise training value.
◂ Cubic’s SPEAR, viewable remotely from RAF Waddington, points towards live ranges that behave ever more like networked simulations with real aircraft in the loop. ▸
