AR Comes to USAF Fighter Cockpits
⊲ FlightGlobal ⊳ Florida-based Red 6 revealed on 15 August that it has received a contract from the USAF’s Air Combat Command to deploy its Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS) technology into the F-16 fleet. ATARS’s helmet-mounted display projects virtual aircraft and environments directly into pilots’ visors and enables them to train against simulated threats during real flights, merging live and virtual air combat without relying solely on ground-based simulators. Already demonstrated on trainers and transport aircraft, this marks the first deployment on frontline F-16 squadrons.
