A new IEEE paper presented at the 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Emerging Metaverse underscores the importance of interoperability for a universally accessible Metaverse. Authored by Christine Perey, the paper discusses how siloed, proprietary platforms risk fragmentation, limiting user choice and personalization. The Metaverse Standards Forum, with over 2,600 members, supports creating standards for interoperability in areas like 3D asset exchange, virtual/real-world integration, and identity management. This cross-industry effort aims to foster an inclusive, scalable, and interconnected Metaverse.
