
New Chip Drives VR & AR Convergence
⊲ Tom’s Guide ⊳ Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, already powering Xreal’s Project Aura smart glasses. The chip delivers a 60% faster GPU capable of 4.4K-per-eye rendering, a 160% boost in AI processing, 20% longer battery life and operation 12°C cooler than its predecessor. Qualcomm sees the chip bridging VR headsets and AR glasses into a single wearable, with partners including Meta, Google and Snap already working on devices. Hardware and software challenges remain, but the company says eventual convergence of the two form factors is coming.
