Virtual Reality’s “Electronic Tongue”

The GuardianScientists have developed ‘e-Taste’, a device capable of recreating and sharing flavours remotely. This innovation could enhance virtual and augmented reality experiences by integrating taste. The system uses an ‘electronic tongue’ to analyse taste chemicals in food or drink, transmitting this data to a receiver that delivers the corresponding flavours to the user’s tongue. Tests showed up to 87% accuracy in flavour identification, though sensations like spiciness and fattiness remain challenging.
