3D Files Carry Looks, and Now Behaviours
⊲ GameDev.net ⊳ Khronos, the industry consortium behind widely used graphics and computing standards, used SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles to set out where those standards are headed next. The headline move was KHR_interactivity, submitted for ratification within the glTF format, which lets interactive behaviour travel inside a file so interactive content can move between tools, engines, and runtimes without rebuilding logic for each target. Babylon.js, Needle Tools and Magic Leap have already signalled support, with Android XR expected to follow. Nvidia’s Neil Trevett, elected President of the Khronos Group, said “assets that are no longer just things you look at, but experiences you can use.”
⊲ If KHR_interactivity holds up in production, studios could reuse interactive logic across 3D tools and engines without rebuilding it each time. ⊳
