US Army Operational AR Lives On

The Register ⊳ The US Army has relaunched its augmented reality headset initiative with $354 million in contracts to Anduril and Rivet Industries for its Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) program. Anduril receives $159 million to prototype a headset with night vision, AR, and AI integration, aiming to resolve battlefield data fragmentation. Rivet secures $195 million to co-develop a modular, soldier-informed alternative. The move marks a departure from Microsoft’s troubled IVAS programme, which captured over 260,000 hours of soldier input but faced technical setbacks and user discomfort during field tests.
