Virtual Worlds Go Ubiquitous
⊲ The Verge ⊳ Meta is bringing its VR social platform Horizon Worlds to mobile devices, allowing users to explore virtual spaces without a headset. Reality Labs VP of Content Samantha Ryan confirmed the move in a blog post, citing stronger user growth on mobile devices. The division has lost nearly $80 billion since 2020, and Meta recently cut around 1,500 Reality Labs staff. The mobile pivot sets Horizon Worlds up to compete directly with Roblox and Fortnite, targeting a far larger audience than VR headset owners.
