Tiny Batteries for AR Contact Lens
⊲ Road to VR ⊳ XPANCEO is working with French battery firm ITEN on a proof-of-concept AR contact lens powered by a tiny solid-state microbattery. The company says the approach could help address strict limits around thickness, heat, safety and durability for smart lenses. Body-powered energy harvesting may support lighter tasks, but AR visuals need steadier milliwatt-level power. ITEN’s ceramic batteries are intended to offer safer, compact storage for short bursts of display and wireless use. XPANCEO recently secured $250 million in funding, enhancing its valuation to $1.35 billion.
