AR That Thinks Ahead
⊲ Tech Xplore ⊳ Fiona Ryan, a Ph.D. student at Georgia Tech, is advancing AR technology by developing a method to predict user gaze in 3D environments. Unlike current AR devices that react to gaze, her approach anticipates user interactions, enhancing the immersive experience. Her research, presented at the IEEE CVPR, utilises a dataset from Meta to model 3D gaze paths. The software can predict gaze up to ten seconds ahead, potentially benefiting both AR applications and robotics by improving task performance understanding. Future work aims to refine these predictions and explore longer forecasting horizons.
