USAF Orders $45.3 million 747-8i Simulator
⊲ Luxurylaunches ⊳ The US Air Force has awarded CAE USA in a sole source $45.3 million contract to install a Level D full-flight simulator for the Boeing 747-8i at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. The device will train pilots on the Qatar-donated presidential jet and the future VC-25B aircraft, whose cockpit, engines and systems differ substantially from the older VC-25A. The simulator replaces reliance on an Atlas Air 747-8 freighter and commercial facilities, letting crews rehearse emergencies safely while keeping operational aircraft available for duty.
⊲ The $45.3 million sum, roughly a ninth of the reported presidential 747’s own cost, reflects the premium now placed on ground-based readiness. ⊳
