Simulated Drone Warfare Exposes Weaknesses
⊲ TechRadar ⊳ During the Combined Resolve military exercise held in Germany in April and May 2026, Ukrainian drone forces disabled armour so rapidly that equipment had to be respawned into the scenario. Despite initial struggles however, US forces improved their defensive capabilities through enhanced camouflage, strategic dispersal, and electronic countermeasures. The exercise revealed broader NATO vulnerabilities, as UK, Estonian, and Swedish forces similarly faced challenges against Ukrainian drone operations. NATO leadership acknowledged the training value, with General Alexus Grynkewich noting significant improvements amongst allied forces following collaboration with Ukrainian drone controllers.
⊲ With allied forces also outmatched in exercises, militaries face mounting pressure to overhaul counter-drone training before real conflict tests them. ⊳
